Local 1775 Recognizes John Grey for 40 Years of Faithful Service to Marin's Firefighters

Local 1775 thanks John Grey for 40 years as Local 1775’s attorney!  John’s first meeting was July 19, 1975.  John is an active member of the IAFF, after being granted special disposition by the IAFF in the 1970s while serving as an attorney and union organizer for Local 1775.

The Executive Board adopted Resolution 2015-1 unanimously at the July 9th meeting, “Recognition of John Grey IAFF Local 1775 Labor Attorney.”  John was also presented with an IAFF pin, a union Executive Board polo, a framed original copy of the resolution (read below), a bronze inscribed trumpet, and framed patch collection showing the 11 patches of all local 1775 represented agencies.  John will throw out the first pitch at the July 24 San Rafael Pacifics game - don't miss out on the opportunity to thank John over a free ballgame, concert, and dinner on the field with your fellow union members - click here to RSVP for Firefighter Appreciation Night at San Rafael Pacifics!

Resolution 2015-01:

Recognition of John Grey, IAFF Local 1775 Labor Attorney

Whereas, John Grey in 1975 became the Labor Attorney for the Marin Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1775.

Whereas, John served 30 years alongside Emeritus Local 1775 President Steve Warner growing Local 1775 from 20 members in 1975 to 376 members in 2015.

Whereas, there were 17 Marin fire agencies: Fairfax, San Anselmo, Sleepy Hollow, Ross, Kentfield, Larkspur, Corte Madera, Mill Valley, Alto- Richardson Bay, Tamalpais, Sausalito, Tiburon, San Rafael, Terra Linda, Marinwood, Novato & Marin County.

Whereas, today there are 11 Marin Fire agencies: Ross Valley, Kentfield, Larkspur, Corte Madera, Mill Valley,  Southern Marin, Tiburon, San Rafael, Marinwood, Novato & Marin County.

Whereas, John has assisted Local 1775 member departments by drafting legal “Joint Powers Agreements”, Shared Services Agreements and  Consolidation/Annexation documents.

Whereas, John led Local 1775 to victory in lawsuits against the City of Sausalito – right to join a Union; and MCERA – unfair treatment of Firefighters. This victory was worth a half-million dollars to our members.

Whereas, John served his community as a Ross Valley volunteer Firefighter. He responded to local and mutual aid incidents. He was part of the team behind Marin’s first & last non sanctioned EPA oil fire fighting hands on training!

Whereas, John a few years ago said, that “things are quiet in the union, not much going on”. He would have been correct, if not for attacks on pensions, health care, Grand Jury reports 1 and 2, COIN, FLSA, Fact Finding, CQI, Shared Services, Negotiations, Politics, elections, tax measures, Reed Pension initiative 2016, Tiburon and then there’s Marinwood…………

Whereas, one of John’s best assets is identifying the issue and working to a successful outcome for Local 1775 members in the grievance process, collective bargaining, mediation and disability retirement.

Therefore let it be Resolved, that July 9, 2015 the Marin Professional Firefighters, International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1775 Recognizes our brother John Grey, Labor Attorney for his 40 years of dedicated, unwavering service to better the lives of the Marin Professional Firefighters.

And Furthermore let it be resolved, Local 1775 President Briare declares July 2015 John Grey appreciation month.

Executive Board of Local 1775

Signed,

Robert M. Briare, President; John Bagala, Vice President; Todd Lando, Secretary; Jason Hatfield, Treasurer.
