16th annual Steven Rucker Memorial Golf Tournament

Dear Novato Fire Foundation Supporter:

I am the Tournament Chair of the 16th annual Steven Rucker Memorial Golf Tournament. This event is held to honor Steven Rucker, a Novato firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty on October 29, 2003, when Novato Fire Engine Company 6162 was overrun by fire while defending a home in rural San Diego County. The Cedar Fire, burning under a Santa Ana wind condition, eventually consumed 280,278 acres, and destroyed 2,820 structures. Steve Rucker was a man that gave his own life, facing a horrific fire storm, standing his ground against flames of unimaginable fury, battling nature and his own exhaustion to save lives, and property.

Novato Firefighters created a golf tournament that would remember and honor Steve Rucker.

For the past 16 years this event has served as our signature fundraiser raiser for the Novato Fire Foundation and has raised over $250,000.00. Donations received from the Steven Rucker Golf Tournament have helped the Novato Fire Foundation support our Fire Squirts Camp for at-risk children, our Automated External Defibrillator program, the Steven Rucker scholarships, burn foundations, and various other Novato Foundation sponsored community programs.

On behalf of the Steven Rucker family, the Novato Fire Foundation, and Novato Professional Firefighters’ Association; we are asking for your support. 100% of your generous gift and sponsorship will go directly to firefighter-friendly charitable organizations and your donation is tax deductible to the extent permitted by law. Checks should be made out to “Novato Fire Foundation”.  Please write “Steven Rucker Golf” in the memo section.  Gifts in kind suitable for raffle prizes are most welcome.

On behalf of all the members and supporters of the Novato Fire Foundation, we thank you for your consideration of our request. Furthermore, we thank you for your support of our nation’s first responders.

Our event is scheduled for October 14th, 2019 at the Marin Country Club in Novato. We look forward to partnering with you to make our event a great success.  We hope that you will have the opportunity to join us on this date to enjoy a day of remembrance and fellowship amongst friends of Steve, the Foundation, and our community.
